Kyle Schwarber Crushes a Solo Homer, Giving Phillies an Early Lead Over Blue Jays
A Historic Night for Schwarber and the Phillies
Schwarber Makes History
Kyle Schwarber hit a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning, giving the Philadelphia Phillies a 1-0 lead over the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday night. The homer was Schwarber's 40th of the season, making him the first Phillies player to reach 40 home runs in a season since Ryan Howard in 2009.
Schwarber's home run was also the 100th of his career. He is now the fastest player in Phillies history to reach 100 home runs, doing so in just 316 games.
Phillies Take Early Lead
Schwarber's home run gave the Phillies an early lead in a game that they would eventually win 4-1. The Phillies bullpen was excellent, allowing just one run on four hits over the final eight innings of the game.
The Phillies now have a 79-63 record, which is good for second place in the National League East. They are just 2.5 games behind the Atlanta Braves for the division lead.
