Garrett Nussmeier, No. 18 LSU pull away from Nicholls

Tigers score 28 unanswered to end the game

LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier threw for 344 yards and six touchdowns as the No. 18 Tigers pulled away from Nicholls [LINK] 65-17 on Saturday night in Baton Rouge.

Nussmeier completed 20 of 29 passes and also ran for a touchdown for LSU (2-1). Josh Williams rushed for 114 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries.

Nicholls (1-2) took an early 10-0 lead on a 33-yard field goal by Gavin Lasseigne and a 2-yard touchdown run by Julien Gums.

LSU responded with a 21-0 run to take a 21-10 lead at the end of the first quarter. Nussmeier threw touchdown passes of 13 yards to Kyren Lacy, 22 yards to Kayshon Boutte and 10 yards to Mason Taylor.

The Tigers extended their lead to 35-10 at halftime on a 3-yard touchdown run by Williams and a 1-yard touchdown run by Nussmeier.

Nicholls cut the lead to 35-17 on a 10-yard touchdown pass from Kohen Granier to Dai'Jean Dixon with 8:28 remaining in the third quarter.

LSU put the game away with four unanswered touchdowns in the fourth quarter. Nussmeier threw touchdown passes of 15 yards to Jaleel Skinner, 9 yards to Boutte and 28 yards to Brian Thomas Jr.

Granier finished 19-of-28 passing for 226 yards and a touchdown for Nicholls. Dixon had six catches for 103 yards and a touchdown.
