Bharatiya Janata Party

Bharatiya Janata Party: A Retrospective

Founding and Early History

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was officially established in 1980, emerging from the erstwhile Bharatiya Jana Sangh. Founded on the principles of Hindutva, an ideology that emphasizes the Hindu cultural heritage of India, the BJP quickly gained traction within the country's political landscape.

National Presence and Electoral Success

Contesting its first general election in 1984, the BJP initially won only two Lok Sabha seats. However, over the years, it steadily expanded its national presence through strategic alliances and grassroots campaigns. In 1996, the BJP formed a coalition government known as the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), marking a significant milestone in its political journey.

Ideology and Agenda

At the core of the BJP's ideology lies Hindutva, which promotes cultural nationalism and seeks to protect Hindu interests in India. The party advocates for a strong and sovereign nation, with a focus on economic development and national security. In recent years, the BJP has also embraced social welfare programs, aiming to uplift marginalized communities.
