Eurofighter Tranche 5 to Replace German Tornados
Airbus Unveils Plan for Advanced Combat Aircraft
Current Tranche 4 Production to End in 2030
An Airbus official announced on December 9, 2020, that the company will offer a Tranche 5 standard of the Eurofighter combat aircraft to replace Germany's current fleet of Panavia Tornados.
According to the company's plan, production of the current Tranche 4 Eurofighters in Germany will conclude in 2030 with the delivery of the last aircraft. The Tranche 5 standard will incorporate the advanced Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) E-Scan radar, along with enhanced defensive aids and other improvements.
A mockup of a Eurofighter with a prominent "Eurofighter" marking was displayed at the ILA Berlin exhibition area. The company official emphasized that the Tranche 5 Eurofighter will be the most advanced combat aircraft available, offering Germany the latest capabilities to meet future security challenges.
