Unworn Jersey Numbers in Bruins History

Throughout the Boston Bruins' 100-year history, various jersey numbers have been donned by legendary players, each number carrying its own significance. However, there remain a select few numbers that have yet to grace the ice for the Bruins.

Numbers Not Worn in NHL Playoffs

From the inaugural 1924-25 season to the current 2023-24 campaign, a total of 13 numbers have not been worn by any player in Bruins playoff history: 66, 69, 78, 84, 85, 87, 93, 95, 96, 97, 98, and 99.

Numbers Not Worn in Regular Season

Expanding beyond playoff appearances, the list grows to 16 numbers that have never been worn in a regular season game for the Bruins: 66, 69, 78, 80, 82, 84, 85, 87, 90, 93, 94, 95, 96, 97, 98, and 99.

Retired Jersey Numbers

In recognition of their exceptional contributions, the Bruins have retired 12 jersey numbers, honoring their all-time great players: 2 (Eddie Shore), 3 (Lionel Hitchman), 4 (Bobby Orr), 5 (Dit Clapper), 7 (Phil Esposito), 8 (Cam Neely), 9 (Johnny Bucyk), 10 (Wayne Cashman), 11 (Terry O'Reilly), 15 (Milt Schmidt), 16 (Frederick "Freddy" Riley), and 24 (Terry Sawchuk).
